Native Application Development
We build native applications for iOS, macOS, Windows, and Android — combining modern delivery speed with the quality users expect from their platform.
Web applications are the right answer to many problems. They are quick to distribute, easy to access, and available on almost any device. But wrapping a website in an application window does not make it a good desktop or mobile application.
People who use an application every day notice the difference: in launch time, keyboard control and accessibility, notifications, file access, clipboard handling, offline operation, and integration with the operating system. Native applications behave as people expect on their platform. They feel like part of the system rather than a visitor inside it.
Parlant develops native applications for iOS, macOS, Windows, and Android. We build new products and help companies move existing web applications into native clients incrementally. The objective is not to reproduce the same interface four times. It is to create one coherent product that uses the strengths of each platform.
Native Development Is Economically Viable Again
Maintaining a separate application for each platform was long treated as a luxury. That calculation is changing. Modern development environments, automated testing and releases, shared interfaces, and well-separated product architectures have substantially reduced the cost of supporting multiple native clients.
Not every line of code needs to be shared. The important part is to share the right things: product logic, data models, API contracts, design language, and tests. User interfaces, system integration, and interaction patterns can remain platform-specific where that produces a better product.
This makes native development viable for products that would previously have been confined to a browser-based shell for cost reasons. For some applications, that threshold has already been crossed. We help clients make the decision on evidence and replace a web application where users deserve a genuine application experience.
The Browser Is Not the Product Baseline
Frameworks such as Electron have legitimate uses. They allow teams with web experience to deliver desktop software quickly. That convenience carries a cost: a complete browser runtime becomes part of the product, resource use and launch time increase, and operating-system integration often falls short of a native application.
We do not accept that trade-off automatically simply because it looks familiar in the short term. When an application is used intensively, works closely with the operating system, or must excel in performance, offline operation, and interaction quality, a native solution is often the more professional foundation. “Write once, run anywhere” should not mean delivering the lowest common denominator everywhere.
Our Approach
A native product requires more than a polished interface. We consider the entire delivery chain:
- Define the product and platforms. We identify which capabilities must remain consistent and where platform conventions should take priority.
- Separate responsibilities cleanly. Backend, API contracts, product logic, and clients receive clear boundaries. This reduces duplicate work without forcing the interfaces into artificial uniformity.
- Migrate existing applications incrementally. Replacing a web application does not require a risky full rewrite. We separate capabilities along explicit interfaces and deliver useful native versions early.
- Automate quality. Tests, signing, builds, and releases belong in the product from the beginning. This keeps multiple platforms manageable over time.
- Design for operation. Backend services, synchronisation, updates, diagnostics, and security are developed with the applications rather than added afterwards.
This work follows the same principles as our broader application development: pragmatic, test-driven, and designed for long-term maintainability.
Experience from Real Products
Galakto Desktop — For Tiny Monster GmbH, we develop native macOS and Windows applications alongside the Galakto backend. Both clients form one coherent product while respecting the expectations and capabilities of their operating systems.
ClipAI — We built ClipAI as a native macOS application that makes ChatGPT available from any application through a global keyboard shortcut and the clipboard. It demonstrates what native software can do: provide a system-wide capability that fits into an existing workflow instead of moving that workflow into another browser window.
For us, native development is not a nostalgic return to isolated codebases. It is a deliberate product decision: shared architecture, professional automation, and the best possible experience on every platform.
